Sayedee freed on parole to join mother's janaza

Jamaat-e-Islami executive council member Delwar Hossain Sayedee, detained on charges of crimes against humanity, was freed on parole for half an hour yesterday to attend his mother's namaz-e-janaza. Deputy Commissioner (Motijheel Zone) Anwar Hossain of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police said Sayedee was taken to Motijheel Government Boys' High School around 4:30pm from Dhaka Central Jail. After the Asr prayers and the namaz-e-janaza on the school compound, Sayedee was taken back to jail at around 5:00pm. However, Home Secretary Monjur Hossain in the afternoon told The Daily Star: “Sayedee will be freed on parole for 15 minutes to attend the funeral of his deceased mother.” Gulnaher Yousuf Sayedee died on Thursday evening at Sayedee's Shahidbagh residence in Motijheel area, Jamaat's Assistant Office Secretary Mohammad Motaleb Mia said. She would be buried at the family graveyard at Zianagar upazila in Pirojpur. The hearing on framing of the charges against Sayedee may begin on Sunday at the International Crimes Tribunal.
