Remarks on Jamaat Leaders
Legal steps against Khaleda demanded
Leaders of Sammilita Sangskritik Jote at a protest rally yesterday demanded the government to take legal action against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia for commenting that the arrested Jamaat-e-Islami leaders did not commit any war crimes.
“The BNP chairperson uttered the most heinous remark and a biggest lie since the country's independence. Doing so, she lost the eligibility to be a member of parliament,” said the jote President Nasiruddin Yusuf.
Khaleda, addressing a Chapainawabganj rally in October 19, said the government branded Jamaat leaders as the anti-liberation force, which is actually Awami League.
The jote organised the protest rally in the city's Central Shaheed Minar where they urged people to stay alert to foil the conspiracy of saving the war criminals.
Bangladesh Centre of International Theatre Institute President Ramendu Majumdar said, "We are really surprised to see that anyone can speak whatever he or she wants.
"It would be of no surprise if we hear that Ziaur Rahman gave the historic 7th March speech if BNP is voted to power."
Ekatturer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee acting president Shahriar Kabir said the home minister would have to answer why a sedition case would not be filed against Khaleda for making such statements.
The jote Vice President Golam Kuddus and General Secretary Hasan Arif and Liberation War Museum Trustee Mofidul Haque also spoke at the programme.
