10 arrested in city
Police in separate drives yesterday arrested 10 alleged extortionists and muggers with arms and ammunition from the city yesterday.
Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested Firoj Ahmed alias Kallu, second-in-command of fugitive top listed criminal Dakat Shahid, and his two aides with three firearms and 15 bullets in Sutrapur. The two aides are Mokter Hossain alias Kana Kokter and Khan Mohammad Shahrier alias Eshan.
DB Assistant Commissioner Golam Azad Khan said they also recovered 13 cellphone sets and 20 SIM cards, used for demanding extortion, from their possession.
In another drive, Motijheel police arrested six suspected muggers with six sharp weapons from Gupibagh cattle market.
The arrested are Monwar Hossain Munna, Jasim Uddin, Abdul Hannan, Roman Miah, Nurul Islam alias Mona and Billal Hossain.
Meanwhile, Mirpur police, in a drive, arrested one Mamun Talukder with a revolver from his residence at Mirpur Section-2.
