Drivers' qualification

Md. Arifur Rahman, Ibrahimpur, Kafrul, Dhaka
The irregularities of BRTA authorities in giving driving licenses are known to all. People think that drivers' educational qualification is important if we want to reduce the frequency of road accidents. But I think educational qualification is not mandatory for being a driver. Rather the most important thing is to give them training. If the drivers go through proper training, that would be enough. However, we want to see transparency in giving licenses. There should be a database for all vehicles and all driving licenses so that the traffic sergeants can get information through internet easily. Thus, it will be easy to identify fake licenses. There are no fixed working hours or holidays for the drivers. The drivers need proper rest to keep fit. The victims of the road mishaps do not get proper treatment after the accident because of the negligence of doctors. There are many insurance companies in our country but none of them are coming forward to help such victims. I would request the government and the authorities concerned to give a serious consideration to the matter.
