Couple Killed in Road Crash
Truck driver yet to be held

Police are yet to arrest driver of the truck which collided head-on with a private car, leaving a couple dead on the spot, at Nagapara of Gazipur Sadar on Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway Wednesday night. Police seized the truck that night and filed a case with Joydebpur Police Station in this connection yesterday, said SM Kamruzzaman, officer-in-charge of the police station. The victims are Nahid Roksana Lopa, 32, a medical officer of urology department of Bangabandhu Shiekh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), and Manwarul Hasan Biplob, 38, engineer of a private firm. Also injured in the accident were their five-year old son Nuhad, driver Murad, 40, and domestic help Kakon, 12, who were rushed to Gazipur Sadar Hospital. Later, Murad and Kakan were referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. The couple was returning to Dhaka after spending the Eid holidays at their native village in Sherpur, said Mamun-or-Rashid, Manwarul's bother-in-law. The bodies were kept in BSMMU mortuary and the namaz-e-janaza was held at the central mosque of BSMMU after Zohr prayers yesterday. They will be buried in their native village today, says a BSMMU press release. Expressing deep shock over the deaths, BSMMU authority yesterday demanded proper investigation into the accident and exemplary punishment to the driver. They also extended their condolence to the bereaved family members.
