Bangladesh products display centre in Male on the cards
Bangladesh and the Maldives yesterday discussed setting up a Bangladesh product display centre in Male where potential exportable products from Bangladesh would be displayed.
This was discussed during a bilateral meeting of Foreign Minister Dipu Moni with her Maldivian counterpart Ahmed Naseem on the sidelines of the Saarc Council of Ministers Meeting held yesterday at Addu city in the Maldives, said a foreign ministry press release.
At the meeting, Dipu Moni particularly discussed the potential for strengthening bilateral trade between Bangladesh and the Maldives.
In response, Naseem expressed interest in jute products, tableware and handicrafts.
Both the Foreign Ministers discussed possibilities of cooperation in agriculture sector extensively.
The Maldives foreign minister suggested sending a delegation to Bangladesh from the Maldives to review the possibilities of cooperation to establish linkage with agriculture related research organisations.
Naseem also discussed the possibilities of extending the ongoing Indian Ocean Cargo and Passenger Ferry Service under Saarc framework to Bangladesh, with a view to establishing Chittagong-Chennai-Male route, involving the private sector.
The two Foreign Ministers also signed the cultural exchange agreement for 2011-2015 period under the aegis of the bilateral cultural programmes.
During the meeting, they discussed the entire range of bilateral issues between the Maldives and Bangladesh and expressed satisfaction at the existing excellent ties between the two countries.
