All major public services will be delivered from country's 64 district e-service centres from November 14, ending the over 200-year-old manual and cumbersome method. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon will inaugurate the e-service centre from Shapla Conference Hall of Prime Minister's Office (PMO). National Project Director of Access to Information (A2I) Programme Md Nazrul Islam Khan, talking to the news agency yesterday, said the government was convinced “after successfully piloting the e-service centre at Jessore district. “People can also access services online instead of physically going to the office of their deputy commissioners.” The UNDP-funded A2I Programme under the PMO is implementing the project to ensure people's access to public services through Information and Communication Technology. The government will also set up e-info centres at all levels of the administration by 2012 alongside mobile SMS service to provide administrative services, said Nazrul, also the private secretary-1 to the prime minister. UNDP Assistant Country Director KM Morshed said, “E-service centres will provide hassle-free service and save labour, money and time.”
