Arati Dutta passes away
Veteran woman leader Arati Dutta passed away in her sister's residence at Nandan Kanon in the port city on Wednesday due to old age complications at the age of 87.
She left behind one daughter, two sons and a host of relatives to mourn her death.
Her body will be cremated at Abhoymitra cremation centre at Balurdighir Par in the city today.
Arati participated in socialist movement and organised peasant movements in Chittagong in 50s and 60s to build a society free from exploitation and discrimination.
Leaders and activists of all progressive political and cultural organisations paid their homage to her memories placing wreaths on her body on Shaheed Minar premises in the port city yesterday.
Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), Workers' Party of Bangladesh, Biplobi Workers Party, Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal, Bangladesh Chhatra Union, Samajtantrik Chhatra Front, Bangladesh Chhatra Moitri, Samajtantrik Mahila Forum district and city units condoled her death.
