Bangladeshi bank to open branch in Male
A Bangladeshi commercial bank would open a foreign exchange branch in the Maldivian capital Male to facilitate the expatriates to send their remittances home.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said this to the expatriate Bangladeshis who gathered here to greet her during unveiling a replica of the National Mausoleum set up on the roadside of the southern Maldivian city yesterday afternoon.
The replica has been set up as part of the Saarc initiative on the occasion of the 17th Saarc Summit that ended here yesterday.
Hasina and Mayor of Addu City Abdullah Sadig jointly unveiled the 9-foot high and 4-foot width replica after the concluding session of the summit.
Around 200 Bangladeshis working in Addu thronged the venue to greet the prime minister. They visibly turned emotional seeing first time any highest executive of the country amongst them in the remote Indian oceanic island.
She said her government would take initiative so that they can work in the Maldives with dignity.
Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni and Bangladesh Ambassador to the Maldives Rear Admiral ASM Abdul Awal, among others, were present on the occasion.
