One killed for asking to switch off loudspeaker
A Jubo Dal activist was killed in Begumganj upazila yesterday as he urged organisers of a cultural programme to turn the loudspeaker off during prayers.
The deceased, Mohammad Masud, 26, of Tetoitala village, was the owner of Masud Decorator.
Witnesses said a group of ruling party supporters organised a cultural show on Kalir Hat Government Primary School premises on Eid day. As the programme continued during Maghrib prayers, Masud went to the spot and requested them to keep the loudspeaker off. They had also engaged in a heated argument then.
Following this, a group of ruling party supporters led by Pepsi Kamal, Russel and Nizam attacked Masud at his place on Thursday night and beat him mercilessly.
Locals rushed Masud to a private clinic as he fell unconscious. Doctors there advised he be taken to Dhaka, but he died yesterday noon on the way.
Following his death, a tense situation was prevailing in Kalir Hat and adjacent areas.
The victim's brother, Mahmud Sumon, filed a case with Begumganj Model Police Station in this connection, Sub-inspector Kamol Krishna Dhar said.
