BCL central committee announced
A 220-member central executive committee of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) was announced last evening, though, as per its constitution, the number should be 201.
The constitution would be amended to legitimise the new committee, where the number of members would be raised to 251, BCL General Secretary Siddique Nazmul Alam told The Daily Star.
The rest of the posts will be filled up soon to run the organisation's activities effectively across the country, he added.
The new committee consists of 41 vice presidents, 10 joint secretaries, 10 organising secretaries, secretaries, deputy secretaries and assistant secretaries.
BCL elected Badiuzzaman Sohag as central committee president and Nazmul as general secretary through its 27th national council on October 12.
On the delay over announcing the committee, Nazmul said the committee could not be formed immediately after the council due to lack of cooperation from the immediate past president and general secretary.
Those who were active in the movement for the release of Awami League Chief Sheikh Hasina during the last emergency period were awarded posts in the new committee, he added.
