3 killed in road accidents
At least three people were killed in separate accidents in Chapainawabganj, Rangpur and Bagerhat yesterday.
A female SSC examinee was crushed under the wheels of a truck at Bangapara area in Niamotpur upazila of Naogaon yesterday, reports our Chapainawabganj correspondent.
The deceased was Jesmin Akhtar, 15, daughter of Mohammad James of the upazila's Dahuta village.
Shafiul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Niamotpur Police Station, said a speedy truck coming in the opposite direction hit the motorcycle on which Jesmin was riding with her brother-in-law around 9:00am.
The blow threw Jesmin off board and consequently she was run over by the truck, the OC said.
Police recovered the body and sent it to Naogaon Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. Police also seized the truck but its driver and helper fled the scene.
An unnatural death case was filed in this regard connection.
Our Rangpur correspondent reports, a man was run over by a Dhaka-bound bus from Kurigram on Rangpur-Kurigram highway at Chawkbazaar area in Rangpur town on Tuesday.
The deceased was Shohrab Hossain Sumon, 30, son of Liakot Ali of Azizullah village in the district's Sadar upazila. He was an official of a local clinic.
Eyewitnesses and police said Sumon was crossing the road around 11:45pm when the mishap happened.
Kotwali police said, as per the request of Sumon's family members, the body was handed over to his family without autopsy and no case was filed in this regard.
Our Bagerhat correspondent adds, an elderly man was hit by a home-bound bus from Rupsha on old Bagerhat-Rupsha road at Ranobijoypur Pagolpir Mazar area in the district's Sadar upazila yesterday.
Bagerhat police said Khandakar Hirok, 65, a resident of the area, was crossing the road around 11:00am when the bus hit him.
Locals rushed him to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital where duty doctors declared him dead.
