Landscaping on public road!

A resident, Gulshan 2, Dhaka
I deeply appreciate the endeavors of The Daily Star in protecting the environment, especially its vigorous campaign to save our endangered rivers from the grabbers. We have been facing a similar situation in a smaller scale at our residential area. Please visit road # 36 at Gulshan. It is a short road in length extending from Westin Hotel on the north to the north gate of Gulshan Central Mosque on the southern end. You will find a few additional boundary walls, mostly metallic, encroaching adjacent parts of the road. Two generous plot owners have made two very expensive landscaping on the public road adjacent to their plots. Costly black marbles and bluish tiles have been used in the fountain in one landscaping. The other one has erected a brick wall on the road apparently to protect its landscaping from the southern side! Surprisingly, even the owner of the residence of our chief election commissioner has also built a metallic boundary wall in addition to its original brick wall, encroaching part of the road. These sporadic multiple encroachments have reduced its width at different segments, effectively narrowing down a reasonably wide road. Could the authorities show enough courage by taking appropriate measures to remove all those encroachments to bring the road to its original shape and size for genuine public use?
