Teesta deal not soon
Manmohan tells Hasina at bilateral talks
(November 11, 2011) We appreciate that both the prime ministers of Bangladesh and India are discussing Teesta water problems but it would be appropriate to discuss this deal in Dhaka due to the sensitivity of the issue.
Anonymous Expat The Indian Prime Minister is unable to take a stand against a State for the sake of the country's betterment and its relations with its neighbours? Hope good sense will prevails at the State government level in Pashchimbanga.
Virendra We cannot just bend backwards for India like the government! India must pay for transit as well as sign the Teesta deal.
Rch You can ask for help from India but it is up to India to help you. This is the reality between India and Bangladesh. I think India will not give Bangladesh the due share of the Teesta waters.
Anonymous As from water sharing and transit accord, India would be much more benefited from transit. So BD has more chance to rethink its bargaining with India. I am hopeful that this government will do its best.
Mizanur Rahman I want the process of signing the transit deal to stop. We don't want to get the Teesta deal, either. What is going on regarding the deal on Ganges waters? We are not getting the share on the basis of the deal. India will take the benefits of using our territory, but they will not give us anything as it has been in the case of the Padma or the Teesta. So our request to Hasina: do not sign the transit deal.
Khaleda Khan Most people of Bangladesh feel emotionally that India will do something for us like a brother. But this emotion is totally wrong. India will never give anything to Bangladesh like a brother. India is moving to make better relations with Bangladesh only because China is becoming a major investor here. Pakistan was not our friend, nor a brother and the same is true of India. We, Bangladeshi people, should not be emotional and consider India or Pakistan as brother countries. Only China is going to be our best friend.
Fida Likhon Since August 1947, India has been losing a huge sum of money in the transport sector. Tripura and its neighbouring states were undeveloped because of communications problem. India was also failing to control the terrorist in this locality. During Pakistan period, the government of that time never allowed India to use the land of then East Pakistan. So, it became a big obstacle before the federal government of India to control terrorism in these states. But after Bangladesh's independence, India hoped to get the transit facility through Bangladesh territory. Since 1971 India was trying to make an agreement with Bangabandhu but he was a great patriot. Now the Indian government is trying to fulfill their demand from the present Awami League government.
