Women have to face the reality

Mashudul Haque, Central Road, Dhaka
The other day my younger brother, who has been living in the US for a long time and now in Bangladesh, went to the GPO to send a parcel to a foreign country. He was standing in a queue along with other people waiting for his turn. Suddenly, a young woman appeared and dashed to the counter avoiding all others who were standing in the queue. And at this point, my brother requested her to stand behind them in the queue. But, without the slightest hesitation, she started shouting and hurling abuse in Bangla at my brother. The woman was shouting at the top of her voice and the rest of the people were just onlookers. My point is: when women are claiming to be equal as men, why not they value social norms, rules and regulations? When I go to a bank to pay the household utility bills and stand in a long queue, I see that women don't stand in the queue. They go straight to the counter and insist on paying the bills on a 3/5: 1 ratio, that is after every 3/5 men, 1 woman pays the bill. I think women should face the reality if they want to establish gender equality. I wonder when will the people of our country will learn manners and have self-respect.
