Suggestions to face climate change in coasts
A meeting was held here to find out ways for protection of environment in a bid to combat the ongoing process of climate change.
Held at Patuakhali Deputy Commissioner's (DC) conference room on Monday, the meeting adopted 10-point recommendation in this regard.
Forest and Environment Department Deputy Secretary Monjurul Hannan Khan proposed the recommendations at the meeting chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Rabiul Haq.
The recommendations are: Formation of environmental monitoring cell in the coastal districts, ensuring navigability of rivers, opening all closed canals, development of drainage system in the towns, building green barrage through afforestation across the coastal belt, ensuring normal flow of rivers, plantation of palm trees to reduce salinity in coastal belt, stoppage of setting up of mills and factories encroaching rivers and stoppage of indiscriminate tree felling.
Among others, Dumki upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) Sanjoy Kumar Chakrabarty, Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) executive engineer SM Abdus Salam and Galachipa municipality chairman Abdul Wahab Khalifa addressed.
