Road march-bound vehicle kills one
A ruling party activist was run over by a road march-bound human hauler at Shailkupa upazila in Jhenidah yesterday.
The deceased was Nekbar Hossain, 70, of the upazila's Kashabari village.
Local BNP leader claimed that Nekbar is a BNP activist while local AL leader claimed him to be a ruling party activist.
Local people said Nekbar was run over at Kashinathpur village by a human hauler that left from Langolbandth bazar with 15-16 BNP activists.
Hearing this, AL and Bangladesh Chhatra League activists burnt posters of Khaleda Zia and brought out a demonstration in the town with the body.
They also beat up some BNP activists, said opposition party sources.
Claiming him as a BNP activist, ex-BNP lawmaker Abdul Wahab said Nekbar joined the road march, fell down from the human hauler and was run over.
Officer-in-Charge Ahsan Habib of Shailkupa Police Station said the body has been recovered and a case will be filed in this regard.
Local AL leader claimed the body, he added.
