JU expels 6 for beating up journalist

The Jahangirnagar University (JU) authorities have expelled its six students, also Bangladesh Chattra League (BCL) cadres, temporarily on charge of beating up the university correspondent of Daily Janakantha. The six students are Md Shamim Hosen (Geological Science department), Md Monirul Islam (Management Studies department), Md Nahid Hosen (Accounting and Information System), Md Moshiur Rahman Rozen (Archeology department), Md Ibn Mizan (Zoology department) and Md Rashedul Hoque (Government and Politics department) under 40th batch of Shaheed Rafique Jabbar Hall. On November 22, the BCL men beat up journalist Riyadh Ahmed at the dairy gate, leaving him seriously injured. University source said the six were expelled at an urgent syndicate meeting with the recommendation of JU Vice Chancellor Shariff Enamul Kabir on Saturday night. A probe body has also been formed to investigate the matter within one month.
