US wants acceptable polls

The US government wants to see an election acceptable to all parties in Bangladesh, said Dan W Mozena, the newly appointed US ambassador in Dhaka. The US will give Bangladesh necessary assistance to hold such an election, Mozena told journalists after emerging from a call on with Foreign Secretary Mohamed Mijarul Quayes at the foreign ministry yesterday. About the caretaker government issue, the US envoy said, "Bangladesh will have to find out a way for this and Washington will provide Dhaka all necessary assistance to find out the process. The election has to be held in such a way through the process that it will be acceptable to all political parties.” About the Tipaimukh issue, the US ambassador said “the present relations of the two neighbouring countries have been inspiring us. Unresolved issues like Tipaimukh dam can be solved through constructive bilateral dialogue.” "We see the on going discussion between the two countries on transit and resolving border disputes as positive,” he added. On his goals in Bangladesh, the top diplomat said, “the US wants to see a developed, democratic and stable Bangladesh. We will give Bangladesh all out cooperation for this during my tenure in Dhaka.”
