Domestic help tortured in city

A minor domestic help who was allegedly tortured by her employers was admitted to One-stop Crisis Center (OCC) at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) yesterday. The victim, Rupa Akhter, 9, daughter of Abdul Hye, a security guard of the city's Bangshal area, has been working at the house of Pintu at Shewrapara for last two years. Rupa told reporters at DMCH that Pintu and his wife Sathi Begum used to torture her over trifling matters. They beat her severely on Friday and took her to her residence on Saturday claiming that she used to steal food items. Later, her parents admitted her to DMCH with injuries. Dr Bilkis Begum, coordinator of OCC, said the organisation would take action against the couple.
