BCL men halt exams
A group of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) men of Rajshahi University (RU) unit yesterday stopped a RU department final examination as a BCL man was not permitted to attend it.
Brahibin Karim alias Emon, a student of Accounting and Information Management Department of RU, along with 10 other BCL activists including Juwel Rana and Delwar Hossain, drove out the examinees and locked the university hall where the examination was scheduled at 1:30pm, said campus sources.
BCL activists also vandalised furniture of the department, they said.
The department authorities did not allow Emon, also a BCL activist, to take part in the final examination of a seventh semester course as he did not get pass marks in a previous course of sixth semester last year, they added.
On information, RU Proctor Prof Chowdhury Muhammad Zakaria along with law enforcers drove out the BCL men from the department premises around 2:00pm.
The department authorities also postponed the concerned examination.
Contacted, Emon said his course teacher Prof Habibur Rahman Akan gave him fail marks in a course and demanded Tk 50,000 for passing him.
“I was compelled to stop the examination as the department authorities did not take any step despite request to look into the matter,” he said.
Denying Emon's allegation, Prof Habibur said Emon failed in his course as he poorly performed in the course examination.
The department Chairman Prof Dr Suvas Chandra Shil said the university authorities have been informed on the matter.
