Seven die in road crashes
Seven people, including husband and wife, were killed in separate road accidents in Dhaka, Jhenidah, Dinajpur, Rangpur, Netrakona and Pabna early Sunday and yesterday.
Our staff correspondent reports: A truck hit Anwar Hossain, 45, at Shyampur in the city yesterday, leaving him critically injured.
He succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 1:30am.
Our Jhenidah correspondent adds: A couple was killed as a bus crushed a bicycle carrying them on Jhenidah-Kushtia Highway at Mohammadpur in Shailakupa upazila on Sunday night.
The deceased are Khelafat Hossain, 48, and his wife Sagori Khatun Sagar, 40, of Harora village in the upazila.
Shailakupa police said Sagori died on the spot while Khelafat at Jhenidah General Hospital.
In Dinajpur, a man Babul Hossain, 50, son of late Abdul Motaleb, was killed when a Dhaka bound bus hit his bicycle carrying him on Dinajpur-Bogra Highway at Kasipur village of sadar upazila around 11:30pm yesterday noon, said police.
Agitating people blocked the road for three hours and detained the bus at Lakkhitola square.
In Rangpur, an unidentified girl was killed on the spot as a bus ran over her while she was crossing the Rangpur-Dinajpur Highway in Hajirhat area near the town 08:30pm on Sunday.
In Netrakona, a passenger tempo knocked down an elderly man Karimullah, of Khaliajuri upazila, from behind on Netrakona-Khaliajuri road at Chachrakhali Bazar in Khaliajuri upazila, killing him on the spot yesterday.
In Pabna, a madrasa teacher Md Habibullah, 40, of Sujanagar upazila, was left dead on the spot when a truck hit him on Pabna-Sujanagar road at Aladipur village on Sunday.
