RU Admission Trade
Teachers, students found involved
A Rajshahi University (RU) probe body has found involvement of teachers and students of its theatre and music department in admission trade in the name of coaching.
The three-member body submitted its report to the university's syndicate meeting on Sunday.
Prof Dr Mahbubur Rahman, head of the probe body and also director of Institute of Bangladesh Studies at RU, said seven students of the department was found involved in the admission trade.
The students are Majharul Hossain Tokdar Badhan, Majhharul Alam Khan, Mir M Tajmus Sakib, Sohel Ahmed Sumonto, Mamunur Rashid, Indranath Pramakin, and M Al Masum.
Dr Rahman said the report did not mention any name of the teachers as none of interviewed persons revealed their names.
Citing the probe report, he said the persons allegedly took money from around 100 admission seekers in the name of coaching before the admission tests in last October with an assurance of admission to the department.
Prof Shamsuddin Illias, a member of the RU syndicate, said the syndicate decided to include two representatives of the syndicate into the admission committee of the department.
Institute of Business Administration director Prof Mukhlesur Rahman and retired teacher of the Mathematics department Dr Shishir Bhatycharya were tasked with taking the admission test of the department.
The syndicate also formed a review committee to punish those involved in the incident, he said.
The coaching of admission seekers was stopped last year and there was a verbal prohibition against such coaching in exchange for money on the campus, he added.
