CMC reopens after 37 days
Chittagong Medical College (CMC) yesterday reopened after 37 days of closure following the death of a dental unit student in an alleged attack by Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) men last month.
All academic activities have resumed, except for the political activities of the students, said campus sources. The student dormitories were opened on Sunday.
Professor Md Zillur Rahman, head of the pathology department, said classes are going on in full swing since yesterday.
Ismail Hossain, officer-in-charge of Panchlaish Police Station, said situation on the campus is stable, but additional police has been deployed there as a precaution.
Police also conducted a search on the campus in the presence of provosts and superintendents on Sunday.
Mentionable, student Abidur Rahman was allegedly beaten by BCL men on October 19 and succumbed to his injuries two days later. Following this, CMC authorities shut down the college on October 22.
Meanwhile, claiming Abidur as their activist, CMC unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal blamed the BCL unit for his death.
