Here are some comments that came in response to Tuesday's The Daily Star report headlined “Two of the old guard made ministers.” Dr Islam
In my student life, I was an admirer of Suranjit Sengupta as he was a skilled parliamentarian. But his recent comments on different national issues did not reflect maturity. I wonder whether he can add anything positive to this incompetent group of ministers who have totally lost their way. Salim Khan
Bring back Amir Hossain Amu, Tofail Ahmed and Abdur Razzak in the cabinet. Arfan
As a good politician, Mr. Suranjit should keep a liberal mentality. Hriday
This is a good decision. Md. Shazedur Rahman (Rana)
Sheikh Hasina is just trying to recover from the failures of her cabinet members. This change will not bring any positive result. Zabeen, Ahmed Parvez
We thank the prime minister for inducting into the cabinet two vanguards of our national secular politics. My humble request to the PM: please reshuffle the cabinet and drop the few controversial ministers. Thank you again for your timely decision. Mallik
I think this is a good decision taken by the PM. But at the same time, she should remove some ministers who have proved inefficient. Fida Likhon
This is good news that these two leaders have been incorporated in the cabinet. What about the Communications Minister Syed Abul Hossain? He should be removed from the cabinet. If Sheikh Hasina removes him, people will be happy with the government. Ahsan Habib
The cabinet reshuffle required removing inefficient or corrupt ministers. But the PM forgot to do so and is hoping that the people will credit her for the rearrangement. Ahmed
Adding another inexperienced minister like Suranjit Sengupta to the cabinet at the end of third year in power is not a good sign. Induction of Mr Sengupta and Mr Quader will be seen as an attempt to buy off dissent within the party. And promotion of Dr Mahmud, against whom there are dozens of allegations of corruption and abuse of power, would encourage others to continue the race for fortune-grabbing. Rashed
Politics without them was no politics. Good to see them in the cabinet. They understand public sentiment, and therefore, they will be significant figures in the cabinet. Swapan Kumar Sutradhar
Thanks to the PM for this good initiative. People will also be happy to see some other potential leaders in the cabinet and also the exclusion of inefficient ministers. Abdul Khaled Md. Faisal
They will have to prove themselves with their activities. Minhaz Elahi Islam-Mati
We demanded the removal of the home minister and the communications minister. But our PM didn't think about it. Ishtiaq Ahmad
Right decision at the right time by the Awami League government - two experienced leaders have now become ministers. Raihan Sharif
Suranjit Sengupta is a good choice in terms of experience and integrity. He has never been involved in corruption, except for once when he got involved in the import of luxury cars for MPs.
