Nine killed, 15 injured in road accidents

Nine people were killed and at least 15 others injured in separate road accidents in Tangail, Pabna, Naogaon and Gaibandha early Monday and yesterday. Our Tangail correspondent reports: Four day-labourers Abdul Barek, Umed Ali, Anser Ali and Abdul Khalek were killed and eight others injured as a truck rammed a tempo on Bangabandhu Bridge approach road at Dhalatengur in Kalihati upazila yesterday. Police said the truck plunged into a ditch beside the road after hitting the three-wheeler around 6:45am. In Pabna, a Dhaka-bound bus from Kushtia hit a highway police constable Md Roshidul Islam, 40, on Pabna-Kushtia Highway at Pakshey near Lalon Shah Bridge, killing him on the spot yesterday. Ishwardi highway police said the accident occurred while Roshidul was on duty in the toll plaza area. Police caught the driver Md Ekramul Haque and helper Md Rubel Hossain from Bonpara in Natore. In Naogaon, two young motorcyclists Shamim Ahmed and Nazmul Hossain were killed on the spot as a bus hit the bike on Mohadebpur-Dhaka road in Mollakuri area under Mohadebpur upazila yesterday. In Gaibandha, Geeta Rani, 50, was killed and seven others were injured when a Bogra-bound minibus collided head-on with a tractor on Gaibandha-Palashbari road at Matherhat on Monday. A motorcyclist Bakul Mia, 45, was killed on the spot when a bus hit his bike on Rangpur-Bogra Highway at Boalia the same day.
