'Nabanna Utsab' celebrated at JU
The Bangla department at Jahangirnagar University (JU) celebrated 'Nabanna Utsab' (the festival of new harvest) with various colourful events and programmes yesterday.
Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Shariff Enamul Kabir inaugurated the festival at the Mahuatala before the faculty of Arts and Humanities around 11:00am while Bangla department's Chairman and poet Prof Md Khaled Hossain, Prof Md Aniruddha Kahali, Shamima Sultana, Mohammad Sazzadul Islam, Nazmul Hasan were present at the function.
The VC said Nabanna was a popular festival of Bangladesh.
Prof Khaled said this programme has been arranged aiming to focus the culture and heritage of Bangalee.
A special attraction in the daylong festival was the arrangement of 'Pitha-Puli' (a kind of traditional food), which were distributed among the teachers, students and guests.
Huge number of students and teachers from other departments, invited guests and the common people joined the festival with their families.
