Viqarunnisa Incident

No evidence against ex-principal, Basundhara incharge

Says second probe
Court Correspondent
A second police investigation has not found any evidence in support of allegations against the then principal of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College and the incharge of its Basundhara branch. Former principal Husne Ara Begum and Bashundhara branch incharge Lutfur Rahman were accused of trying to cover up the incident and delaying taking action against the culprit. But police again accused Porimol Joydhar, a Bangla department teacher of the school's Bashundhara campus, of molesting a female student at his coaching centre in the city's Badda twice, first on May 28 and then on June 17. The victim's grandfather told The Daily Star that the family would decide today whether they would file any no-confidence (naraji) petition against the report dropping the names of the duo. Mahbube Khoda, the inspector of detective branch of police and also investigation officer of the case, submitted the probe report to a tribunal yesterday. The report said the charges brought against the two were found to be false in further investigation. On September 14, the same court ordered the DB police to conduct further investigation into the case after the victim's father submitted a no-confidence petition challenging the dropping of the names of the duo from the charge sheet on August 17. Judge Mohammad Arifur Rahman of the Fourth Special Tribunal for Prevention of Women and Children Repression of Dhaka will give his order today whether the fresh probe report will be accepted.
