Butterfly fair begins at JU today
Aiming to promote the importance of butterflies in maintaining ecological balance, a butterfly fair begins at Jahangirnagar University today.
Live butterfly display, photography competition, drawing competition for children, kite flying, and film screening, among others, will mark the fair to be open for visitors from 9:30am to 4:30pm in front of Zahir Raihan auditorium.
With the theme "Uraley akashe projapoti, prokriti pai notun goti" (flying butterflies give new life to nature), the zoology department of the university organises it in collaboration with Prokriti O Jibon Foundation and in partnership with private television station, Channel i.
JU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Shariff Enamul Kabir is expected to inaugurate the fair as the chief guest. Freedom fighter Ferdouse Priovasheni and internationally acclaimed photographer Anwar Hossain, among others, will attend the ceremony.
At the fair, Prof Dr Mahmudul Ameen of Dhaka University (DU) will be posthumously honoured for his contribution to butterfly research and overall achievement in the field of zoology.
