Ctg gets full-fledged commissionerate
The much-awaited full-fledged Customs Bond Commissionerate was introduced in Chittagong yesterday to facilitate local export business by offering bond facilities.
Local exporters, especially the readymade garments exporters, had long been demanding the full commissionerate, as they were facing hurdles in exporting RMG due to its absence.
There is a regional bond office in Chittagong. With the increase in export businesses in the port city, a full commissionerate became a necessity, said customs officials.
The country's exporters get bond facility in importing raw materials needed for duty-free export of products. More than 800 export industries including RMG and related factories of Chittagong now import raw materials through bond facility.
NBR Chairman Dr Nasiruddin Ahmed, who inaugurated the commissionerate yesterday, hoped that the full commissionerate would help to solve problems in different local industries quickly.
He also announced that the tariff related cases would be solved through alternative process from January to ease case overload in customs.
Md Jamal Hossain, the newly appointed commissioner of Chittagong Customs Bond Commissionerate, said he hoped that the office could provide quick services to the exporters.
Before the new one in Chittagong, only one Customs Bond Commissionerate in Dhaka had been operating centrally to help the country's exporters get bond facility.
