Amid strong demand of some civil society members and politicians, Home Minister Sahara Khatun yesterday said she would try her best to find out the truth behind the death of former Ganotantri Party president Nurul Islam and his son. "We are working very sincerely to prepare a proper, impartial, and flawless investigation report to get to the truth", she said. "As the home minister, it will not be right to say further about an issue that remains under investigation". The minister said this at a commemorative meeting organised by Nagorik Committee at Liberation War Museum in the city to mark the third death anniversary of Nurul Islam. A mysterious fire engulfed the Lalmatia apartment of Nurul Islam, leaving him critically injured and his son Tamohar Islam dead on the spot on December 3, 2008. The case now remains under investigation of the Criminal Investigation Department. Sahara sought cooperation of all including Nurul Islam's family members to complete the investigation properly and try the perpetrators. Talking to The Daily Star, Nurul Islam's daughter Moutushi Islam said, "There happened no significant advance in the investigation despite repeated assurances of the government. We want to know the specific date it will be completed". Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury claimed that the treatment for Nurul Islam was not sufficient when he was taken to hospital. Talking about the investigation, she said, "The things, needed to be done immediately after the incident, were not done timely. I do not want to say anything more". Awami League leader Tofail Ahmed urged the home minister to take effective measures to complete the investigation and try the war criminals immediately. Prof Zillur Rahman Siddiqui chaired the function, while Workers' Party of Bangladesh President Rashed Khan Menon, veteran politicians Ajoy Roy, Pankaj Bhattacharjee, Krishi Bank Chairman Khondker Ibrahim Khaled, and Mahila Parishad President Ayesha Khanam spoke.
