Agricultural production in the country has increased remarkably and our agricultural system has been shifted from traditional system to modern scientific system. But unfortunately, every year farmers are sustaining huge loss plus much agricultural produces are perishing due to lack of appropriate and adequate marketing facilities. Usually, the agricultural extension personnel during the process of introducing a new technology, motivate the farmers to boost production. Accordingly, the farmers adopt the technology and apply their hard labour to boost production. But it pains us severely when we find news in the electronic and print media that farmers are in a helpless condition with their huge agricultural produces because they do not have buyers to sell their products. I strongly feel that immediate interventions are needed to set up agricultural marketing networks in the country which would ensure storage, transportation, and export facilities for the agricultural produces. True, the government is trying its best to help the farmers by giving subsidies and other technical support with its limited resources. Bangladesh being an agro-based economy, every citizen has a responsibility in building an effective agricultural marketing network through development of necessary infrastructure including local power generation facilities. And to accomplish this goal, the government may impose nominal levies on certain items so that adequate fund can be raised for agricultural development.
