Bird flu in Khulna city
All poultry farms of Khulna metropolitan city were put on red alert yesterday following detection of bird flu in a farm.
According to Khulna district livestock officer Dr Obaidul Karim, 14 fowls of a farm at Natun Bazaar in the city died from Avien Influenza.
This was confirmed in sample tests of the dead fowls done at Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute (BLRI) at Savar in Dhaka.
Hens, cocks and ducks of all houses and poultry farms within one kilometre area around the farm will be culled in an operation to night (Thursday) to check spread of bird flu, Dr karim said yesterday afternoon.
Besides, sale of hen, ducks, chickens and pigeons have been banned for three months in Khulna city with effect from today (Friday) as per a decision taken at a meeting held at the office of Deputy Commissioner. The meeting formed 10 surveillance teams.
