Month-long protest in Sylhet against Tipai dam
'Tipaimukh Bandh Protirodh Andolan', a forum of left leaning political parties in Sylhet, at a rally yesterday announced a month-long agitation to press their demand for cancelling the deal signed for construction of the mega project in the Indian state of Manipur.
The speakers, including Sylhet Bar Association President EU Shahidul Islam, spoke at the rally held in front of the Sylhet Central Shaheed Minar. District Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) President Bedananda Bhhattacharya read out the programme.
The programmes include human chain programme at the district and upazila headquarters on December 12, view exchange meeting with different professional and social organisations from December 13 to December 31 and public meeting at Sylhet Central Shaheed Minar and procession in the city on January 1.
