Sylhet FFs demand trial of war criminals

Leading freedom fighters of Sylhet region, at a meeting here demanded of the government to try war criminals as well as killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and President Ziaur Rahman, for establishing rule of law in the country. Sylhet Muktijoddha Sangsad organised the meeting Tuesday afternoon ahead of reunion of freedom fighters of sectors 4 and 5, scheduled for February 23, 24. Subrata Chakrabarty Jewel was in the chair. Freedom fighters said terrorism began through killing of Bangabandhu in 1975. It became more violent through killing of President Ziaur Rahman in 1981, they said. They said 37,000 war criminals were arrested in 1972. Of them, 26,000 were given mercy. Rest 11,000 war criminals who were not pardoned should be tried now. Sylhet district Muktijoddha Sangsad Deputy Commander Khalilur Rahman and Saad uddin Ahmed, Organisng commander Abdus Salam and member Mashuk Udin Ahmed addressed.
