41 sacks of urea seized
Police yesterday recovered 41 sacks of urea fertiliser from a house at Tipna village in Dumria upazila.
Six persons were arrested in this connection. They are Anwarul Islam, Nurul Islam, Rezaul Karim, Kamrul Islam, Khairul Bashar and Mizanur Rahman. All of them hailed from Satkhira town, police said.
Dumuria upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) Md Shajahan Ali who led the operation said the recovered fertilizer was bought and brought from a dealer of Shahpur union to smuggle out those through Satkhira border. Confessing to their guilt, the arrestees informed it to police, he said.
Hunt for the fertilizer dealer is going on, he said. But neither police nor the UNO disclosed name of the dealer for the sake of investigation.
An acute crisis of fertilizer have been prevailing in Dumuria upazila for the last two months, the UNO said.
