3 murdered in city

A private university student, an unidentified youth and a security guard were killed in separate incidents in last two days in the city's Sher-e-Banglanagar, Pallabi and Banasree. Among them, Shamim Hasan, 21, a first year student of Pharmacy department at University of Development Alternative (Uoda), was found slaughtered behind a public toilet in Chandrima Udyan yesterday morning. Akmal Hossain, a classmate of the victim, said Shamim, son of schoolteacher Sultan Ahmed of Jessor, went out of the dormitory of the Uoda at Shekhertek in Mohammadpur on Tuesday evening and didn't return. Officer-in-charge Zakir Hossain Mollah of Sher-e-Banglanagar Police Station said they suspected several specific causes behind the murder but could not arrest anybody yet. Meanwhile, 35-year-old unidentified youth was strangled to death and his body, wearing trousers and shirt, was found beside the Pallabi dam at around 8:00am. Police said they could not ascertain the cause behind the killing. Security guard Saidul Islam Sayeed, 26, was stabbed to death and his body was found in a reserved water-tank of a house at Banasree on Tuesday evening. He was found dead a day after a case was filed against him with Khilgaon Police Station by a family member of his landlord Khalilur Rahman on charge of stealing a laptop and mobile phone from his house. Officer-in-charge Sirajul Islam of Khilgaon Police Station said the case was filed against Sayeed as a suspect as he remained missing after the theft of the valuables.
