Student held for killing fellow
Police yesterday arrested a student of University of Alternative Development (UODA) from Lalmatia in the city for allegedly slaughtering a fellow student.
The body of the deceased Shamim Hasan, in his first year in the pharmacy department, was found behind a public toilet in the city's Chandrima Udyan on December 7.
Officer-in-Charge Zakir Hossain Mollah of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station said the arrested Mohammd Julkarnine alias Moni, 23, in his third year in the department, used to share a room with Shamim in Shekhertek.
Julkarnine told newsmen that he had squandered away his university fees and was planning to collect the money by selling Shamim's laptop. He added that he murdered Shamim on December 6 when the latter refused to comply.
Police recovered Shamim's laptop and cellphone from Julkarnine.
