Road crashes kill 4

Four people, including a student and a teacher, were killed in separate road accidents in Kishoreganj, Benapole, Khagrachhari and Thakurgaon yesterday. Our Kishoreganj correspondent reports: One motorcycle rider was killed when he skidded off the Kishoreganj-Chamta highway after losing his control over the motorcycle steering and hit a roadside tree near Karimganj Cinema Hall in Karimganj yesterday. The deceased was Sajib Ahmed Satil, 21, son of Gias Uddin of Uttar Ashutia Para village in Karimganj and a student of Mymensingh Polytechnic Institute. After the accident, he was rushed to Kishoreganj Adhunik Sadar Hospital in critical condition where he was succumbed to his injuries. Our Benapole correspondent says: A teacher was killed on the spot when a speedy Jessore-bound pickup van hit his motorcycle while he was crossing the Jessore-Khulna highway at Ramnagar bazar yesterday. The deceased was Habil Uddin, 42, son of Rahim Uddin, of Poddobila village of Sadar upazila and a teacher of Fazilatun Ulum Madrasa. Our Khagrachhari correspondent adds: A woman was crashed under the wheels of a bus when she was crossing the road in Osmanpolli area of Manikchhari upazila in the district yesterday. The deceased was Ambia Khatun, 50, wife of late Kasham Shikdar, of the area. Police seized the bus but its driver managed to flee the scene. Our Thakurgaon correspondent says: One man was killed when a Thkurgaon-bound bus hit him from behind while he was crossing the Panchagarh-Thakurgaon highway in Zem Jute Mill area of Boda upazila in Panchagarh yesterday. The deceased was Somaru, 50, of Gaighata village of the upazila. Local people barricaded the highway for an hour after the accident.
