Discussion on Ataur Rahman today
A discussion and doa mahfil will be held today marking the 20th death anniversary of Ataur Rahman Khan, a veteran national leader and former prime minister of Bangladesh.
Distinguished personalities including litterateurs, lawyers, businessmen and politicians will take part in the discussion at his house No. 500A, Road-7, Dhanmondi in the city after maghrib prayers, said a press release.
Born on March 6 in 1905 at Balia in Dhamrai upazila, Ataur Rahman passed matriculation from Pogose High School in Dhaka in 1924 and completed Intermediate Arts Examination from Jagannath College in 1926.
After obtaining bachelor degree in laws, he joined Dhaka Bar in 1937.
He joined the Muslim League in 1944 and was elected its district vice-president.
In 1949, he became one of the founder vice-presidents of Awami Muslim League and presided over the convention, which announced the formation of the then East Pakistan Awami Muslim League.
