Tk 6.35cr project to save Boro in Sunamganj
Work to be completed by April
The government has taken 68 schemes under a Tk 6.35 crore embankment project to save Boro crops in Sunamganj district and the contractors concerned have been asked to complete their work by April 30.
Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources Badrul Alam Tarafder said this at a view exchange meeting with the district level officials at Sunamganj Circuit House on Thursday afternoon.
In view of the importance of the food crop, which is also the lone cash crop in the low-lying region, the government has taken up measures to ensure a safe harvest, he said, adding that there is concern about saving Boro crops from natural calamities like early flood in Sunamganj district.
The contractors engaged in reconstruction or improvement of the embankments for saving the crops in haor areas should not be allowed to leave their workplaces before completing their jobs, the official added.
Executive Engineer of Water Development Board Abdul Mannan, Deputy Director of Agriculture Extension Department Abdul Jalil Bhuiyan, UP Chairman Humayun Kabir, among others, spoke in the meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Saber Hossain.
