Government's three years in retrospect

Three years have passed since the AL government had taken the helm, with their pledge to bring about the change the people of the country were expecting since independence. But all these promises now seem to be hollow. The utopia of building a Digital Bangladesh is now nothing but a surreal one, with the IT sector of the country still languishing and the dream of cheap and fast internet seems to be a distant one. The government's last three years were marked by economic debacles. The stock market experienced a number of crashes and the record lowest index caused huge outcry among the small investors, many of whom were rendered destitute. The government ignored the noticeably pragmatic suggestions provided by the investigation committee. Rather they adopted some controversial policies such as allowing the investment of black money into the stock market which benefited a certain coterie but worsened the overall situation. The economy also saw huge investment on rental power plants but that at the cost of a steep rise in inflation. The skyrocketing prices of essentials made it difficult for people to make both ends meet. To reduce the subsidies on fuel they had to increase the price of fuel a number of times and it is reported that the price of fuel will rise more in the coming years. Crime is rife throughout the country with a number of mysterious deaths with no perpetrators caught. But the most notable were the rampage the ruling party's student wing did in the educational institutions throughout the country. They went on a terrorising spree on the campus in an unprecedented way. The government did nothing to contain the unbridled violence their golden boys were engaged in. Besides, the performance of most of the ministers was shoddy and the bureaucracy was in shambles due to the appointment of partisan people. The success the government achieved in education, agriculture and power sector were largely overshadowed by a gamut of mediocre performances. It is high time they capitalised on their success and earn people's confidence in the coming years or else it is not far when they will have to face the music.
