PM's speech lacked self-criticism

It is a tradition that at the beginning of a new year the head of the government of a nation delivers speech to his/her fellow countrymen recalling the previous activities and informing them of the next pledges. On January 5 Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina addressed the nation presenting the successes of her government. Of course, there are some commendable performances, for example, ensuring the punishment to the killers of the Father of the Nation, beginning of the trial of war criminals, attaining self-sufficiency in food production, formulating a time-befitting National Education Policy, distributing free textbooks to the students at secondary level, etc. On the other hand, there are also lots of mistakes and failures. Share market scam, high prices of daily commodities, poor conditions of roads and highways, secret killings and mysterious disappearances are a few to say. But the PM in her speech did not mention even a single event of failure. Does she want to say that her government has no failures and made no mistakes so far? As an ordinary citizen, I think she could simply express her sympathy to the small investors. She could say sorry to the DU student Abdul Kader and college student Limon Hossain. She could send a condolence message through her speech to the ill-fated parents who found their beloved sons dead after abduction. Again, she could frankly admit the inability to control the activities of Bangladesh Chatra League, for which there is a chaotic situation almost in all public universities. Then surely the PM's address to the nation could be more meaningful.
