Ghulam Azam lands in jail
Int'l Crimes Tribunal rejects his bail prayer; hearing on Feb 15
(January 12, 2012)
Let the law take its own course.
M Shafiqul Alam Ghulam Azam was the real traitor because he betrayed his land by opposing its independence. Not only so, he supported all atrocities by the Pakistani army. After the Liberation War Ghulam Azam left Bangladesh for Pakistan but he could not live there. At last he had to live under the shelter of the so-called Islamic parties in Bangladesh.
Fida Likhon He was the mastermind of many atrocities in 1971 and played pivotal role in the formation of Razakar, Al-Shams and Al-Badr. They assisted Pakistani military to kill our freedom fighters and general people. So he should get capital punishment.
Faruk, Feni He would be lucky if the tribunal shows leniency.
London Eye If Ghulam Azam is really a war criminal, I demand his punishment. I am sure there are many war criminals in Awami League (AL) and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD). If the Sector Commanders Forum is neutral, it should demand that they be brought to justice. And if the government does not hire neutral judges, the war crimes trial will be a farce.
Shagor Hossain This is a water-tight case that unfortunately took forty years to get to this point. There is no way in heaven or hell for Ghulam Azam to escape from justice now. It will be interesting to see the list of politicians that come forward to proclaim his innocence.
Dibosh Rajani, USA Shame on Ghulam Azam's supporters! I just want to ask those who are still trying to save this most notorious culprit, "Would you forgive him (Azam) if he assassinated any of your family members?"
Robin Each war criminal should be punished and the trial should be hundred percent neutral. The war criminals should be punished whoever they are or whichever party they belong to. Most people of Bangladesh want to see a fair trial of all the war criminals.
Md. Ershad It's good news that Ghulam Azam has been arrested and will be tried for his crime. I wonder why his supporters ask for an international standard trial when we have our own judicial system. The crimes took place in Bangladesh, therefore Bangladesh can do justice to them.
Abdul Wahab I think the followers of Ghulam Azam should be pleased to see that he has been hitting the headlines of the newspapers since March 25, 1971. We are just waiting for the final judgment of the trail and its early completion.
Faqrul, USA Well, I am not sure whether Bangladesh can follow through the process that it started by arresting these pathetic characters. Only solid witnesses and documents would put these people behind the bars. If this is just for show, I would rather ignore these characters and let them die in shame.
Dev Saha The war criminals' ideology and mission was buried in 1971, but not the culprits responsible for crimes against humanity. At these late hours, we cannot try all, but then the leading men must be tried as a tribute to the agonizing hearts that still remain alive and are suffering from old wounds.
