Kushiyara devours 16 shops

The Kushiyara has devoured 16 shops at Fenchuganj bazaar in Fenchuganj upazila headquarters on Friday. Locals said the river that took a serious turns in the last few days is threatening 25 other shops in the area. Affected shop owners claimed that the intensity of the erosion was so severe that they got no time to shift their valuables. They estimated the extent of loss at about Tk 80 lakh. They said that time and again they had demanded of the Water Development Board (WDB) authorities to take immediate steps to halt the erosion, but to no effect. While visiting the spot, UNO Lutfor Rahman said he will ask the authorities concerned to take immediate steps to check the erosion.
