Road crashes kill 6

Six people were killed and 31 others injured in separate road accidents in Dhaka, Habiganj, Kishoreganj, Gaibandha and Natore yesterday. Staff correspondent reports: Schoolboy Zohirul Islam, 8, son of mason Kabir Hossain, was killed after being knocked down by a minibus at Berait in Badda area in the city yesterday. The accident occurred while the class-I student was crossing the road at about 7:30am in front of his home, said local people. Staff correspondent from Sylhet says: Nur Miah, 45, of village Riaznagar, was crushed under the wheels of a bus on Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Dargah Gate area of Madhabpur upazila in Habiganj yesterday. In another incident, motorcyclist Harun Miah, 30, of village Shakuchail in the upazila, was killed on the spot when a bus rammed his bike on the highway at Ratanpur Bus stand at the same upazila in Habiganj yesterday. Our Kishoreganj correspondent says: Satyaranjan Sutradhar, 45, son of Shree Sutradhar of Doukia village, was killed on the spot and five others were injured when a Dhaka-bound BRTC bus collided head-on with a tractor on Kishoreganj-Tarail highway at Sadullarchar yesterday. In Gaibandha, coach driver Raja Mia, 45, of Amin Bazar in Dhaka, was killed on the spot and 25 others were injured as the coach collided head-on with another coach on Rangpur-Bogra highway at 32-mile point in Sadullapur upazila yesterday. In Natore, motorcyclist Saiful Islam, 30, was killed on the spot and another injured when a truck hit the bike on Jonail-Rajapur road at Rolva in Baraigram upazila at around 2:30pm yesterday.
