ASP assistant beats up bus driver

Transport workers put up a blockade for an hour on a road in Narayanganj Rail Gate-1 area protesting an assault on two of their colleagues by a bodyguard of a police officer yesterday. Witnesses and the motor workers said the guard of Golam Azad Khan, assistant superintendent of police (ASP) in Narayanganj, charged baton on a bus driver and his assistant alleging that the bus created congestion on the road. The car of the ASP was struck in the congestion while he was going to Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station. The bodyguard, Ibrahim, baton-charged Md Salu, 35, the driver, and his assistant Abul Hossain at one stage of altercation. Saiful Islam, managing director of Nosib Poribahan, said Salu suffered injuries on the head. He was admitted to a hospital. Acknowledging the incident, Manjur Kader, officer-in-charge of Narayanganj Sadar Police Station, said the workers withdrew the blockade after an assurance of proper investigation into the matter. Police arranged the treatment of the bus driver, he added.
