Donation to Shibir
Sust to examine act to take action against teachers: VC
The authorities of the Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Sust) will examine the university act to decide if any step could be taken in connection with the incident that some teachers and officials have reportedly given donations to Islami Chhatra Shibir, Vice Chancellor Prof Md Saleh Uddin told The Daily Star yesterday.
The VC's response came after some national dailies, including the Prothom Alo, carried stories on Saturday about the fact that Chhatra Shibir regularly realises donations from more than a hundred teachers and officials of the university on different occasions.
Bangladesh Chhatra League happened to confirm the incident when they drove out Shibir men on the night of January 11 and found written receipts of the donations.
Admitting that it is almost open that some of the officials and teachers do donate to Chhatra Shibir, Prof Saleh Uddin said they might have done that because of their previous involvement with the organisation or for other reasons.
He said involvement with political parties is barred for the university teachers and employees, but the authorities are yet to get any specific complaint in this regard.
Asked whether any step could be taken in this regard, the VC said the authorities would examine the university act thoroughly.
