3 expelled from DU hall

The Dhaka University authorities temporarily expelled three students from Kabi Jasimuddin Hall for their alleged involvement in vandalism and creating anarchy early hours of yesterday. Provost Prof Akhtaruzzaman said strict action will be taken against the three students if the allegations are proved. The authorities also formed a three-member committee, headed by House Tutor Abdul Basir, to investigate the incident, he said. The probe body was asked to submit its report within the next three days, he added. All of the expelled are first year students--Nazrul Islam of English department, Mahmud Ullah of philosophy department, and Mohammad Furkan of Islamic studies department. Around 12:30am yesterday, two factions of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) were engaged in chase and counter chase over occupying a seat at the dormitory. The incident took place between two groups of Bangladesh Chhatra League activists who are loyal to the hall unit President Abdur Rahman Zibon. Provost Dr Aktaruzzaman, Acting Proctor Dr Md Amzad Ali, and BCL leaders rushed to the hall and quelled the tension around 3:30am.
