7 killed in road accidents
Seven people were killed and 13 others injured in separate road accidents in Jhenidah, Narsingdi and Sirajganj yesterday.
Our Jhenidah correspondent reports: Four people were killed and 13 others injured as a bus plunged into a ditch beside Dhaka-Khulna highway at Raghunathpur bus station in Kaliganj upazila of the district yesterday.
Three passengers of the bus Mufti Zafar Ahammed, 40, of Mukampur village in Terokhada upazila, Mufti Alamgir Hossain, 30, of Shoalgram in Dumuria upazila, of Khulna and Mawlana Abdul Kuddus, 50, of Naragati village in Narail Sadar upazila died on the spot.
The bus driver Minhaz Mandol, 42, hailing from Jogipal village in Digholia upazila, succumbed to his injuries at Jessore Sadar Hospital.
The accident occurred when the Khulna-bound bus carrying 52 Biswa Ijtema devotees from Tongi hit a tree and fell into the ditch at around 4:30am, said Kaliganj police.
The injured were admitted to Jhenidah and Jessore sadar hospitals.
The people were returning homes after attending Akheri Munajat on Sunday.
In Narsingdi, a sand-laden truck hit a motorbike at Sreefulia in Shibpur upazila at around 4:00pm yesterday, leaving the two motorcyclists critically injured.
The victims are Shafiqul Islam, 31, and Farid Mia, 40.
They succumbed to their injuries on the way to Narsingdi Hospital.
In Sirajganj, Umir Hossain, 45, son of Amir Hossain of Janta village in Manda upazila of Naogaon district, was killed on spot as a truck ran over him while he was crossing the road at Hatikumrul in Ullapara upazila yesterday morning.
